This Privacy Policy explains how Colombia Uncharted (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit colombiauncharted.com (the “Site”).

Colombia Uncharted is an independent travel-information website. We publish guides and articles about travelling in Colombia. The Site is a static website: it has no user accounts, logins, comment sections, or user-uploaded content.

Information we collect

Information you give us. If you email us (for example at info@colombiauncharted.com), we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to include, so we can reply.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically receive certain technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and the website you came from. This helps us keep the Site secure and understand how it is used. We do not use this information to personally identify you.

We do not ask for, collect or store sensitive personal information, payment details, or account credentials, because the Site does not offer accounts or process payments.

Cookies and analytics

We use the following third-party analytics services to understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve our content. For a full list of cookies, durations, and how to manage your choice, see our Cookie Policy.

Google Analytics, provided by Google. It collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device and browser information, to help us understand how the Site is used. By default we run Google Analytics in a cookieless mode (via Google Consent Mode), which reports aggregated statistics without storing cookies or identifiers on your device. We only enable analytics cookies if you accept them using the cookie banner shown on your first visit. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer. This data is processed by Google and may be transferred to servers outside your country. Ahrefs Web Analytics, provided by Ahrefs. This is a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service that reports aggregated, anonymous traffic statistics and does not collect personal data or track you across other websites. See the Ahrefs Privacy Policy.

Apart from the cookies set by Google Analytics, the Site itself does not set cookies. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking analytics cookies will not affect your ability to read the Site.

Outbound and affiliate links

Our articles may link to third-party websites (for example hotels, tours, transport providers or booking platforms). Some of these may be affiliate or referral links, meaning we could earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a booking or purchase after following them. Affiliate links do not influence our recommendations.

We do not currently display third-party advertising or publish paid/sponsored content. If this changes, we will clearly disclose it and update this policy.

When you follow a link to another website, that website’s own privacy policy and terms apply. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of third-party sites.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above to:

operate, maintain and secure the Site;
understand how the Site is used and improve our content; and
respond to messages you send us.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing emails (we do not operate a newsletter).

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Site:

Cloudflare, which hosts and delivers the Site and helps protect it from abuse (server and security logs);
Google (Google Analytics) and Ahrefs (Ahrefs Web Analytics), as described above.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law.

Data retention

We keep analytics data only for as long as it is useful for understanding Site usage, in line with the retention settings of the analytics services we use. Emails you send us are kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. International visitors

We are based in Colombia and the Site is intended for a global audience. The service providers we use may process data in other countries, including the United States. By using the Site you understand that your information may be processed in countries other than your own.

Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date shown on this page reflects the most recent change. Significant changes will be reflected here.
