This Cookie Policy explains how Colombia Uncharted uses cookies and similar technologies on colombiauncharted.com (the “Site”). It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device to remember information about your visit. “Similar technologies” include things like a browser’s local storage. Cookies can be set by the site you’re visiting (“first-party”) or by another service the site uses (“third-party”).
Our approach
We set no cookies of our own, and none of the analytics tools we use set any cookies until you accept them. We keep things deliberately lightweight:
- We use Ahrefs Web Analytics, which is cookieless: it sets no cookies and collects no personal data.
- We use Google Analytics, which can set cookies. By default we run it in a cookieless mode (Google Consent Mode), so no analytics cookies are set unless you accept them using the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
- We use Microsoft Clarity, which shows us anonymous heatmaps and playback of how visitors scroll and click through pages, so we can see which parts of a guide people actually read. Clarity is configured to set no cookies until you accept them. Before you accept, it runs in a cookieless mode, like Google Analytics above: it still gathers anonymous, per-page interaction, but sets no cookies and cannot link your separate page views into a single session.
We never ask for advertising consent on your behalf. Whatever you choose, we always tell Google and Microsoft that advertising storage is denied, so this Site is not used to build advertising profiles.
We have linked our Clarity and Google Analytics so the two tools’ reports line up.
When you accept analytics cookies, Clarity reads the identifier that Google
Analytics stores on your device (the _ga cookie in the table below) to match its
data to the same visit. This link uses the analytics cookies you have already
accepted, sets no additional cookie, is never used for advertising, and does not
send Clarity’s session recordings to Google. Microsoft describes it in its

documentation.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link in the site footer. If you withdraw it, Clarity deletes the cookies below and returns to its cookieless mode.

If you decline, or before you make a choice, these cookies are not set, and both Google Analytics and Clarity run in their cookieless mode: they still gather anonymous, per-page statistics, but store nothing on your device and cannot link your page views into a single session.
Clarity can also set third-party advertising cookies (such as MUID) on
Microsoft’s own clarity.ms domain, but it only does so when a site grants
advertising consent. Because we always tell Clarity that advertising storage is
denied, this Site never triggers them. Microsoft documents the full set in its
list of Clarity cookies.
Remembering your choice
So we don’t have to ask you on every page, we store your cookie choice in your
browser’s local storage under the key cu-consent (its value is simply
granted or denied). This is not a cookie, contains no personal data, and is
never sent to us or any third party. Clearing your browser storage will make the
banner appear again.
Managing cookies
You have a few ways to control cookies on this Site:
- Use our banner. Choose Accept or Decline when you first visit.
- Change your mind. Click “Cookie preferences” in the footer at any time to re-open the banner and update your choice.
- Use your browser. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. Doing so won’t stop you from reading the Site.
- Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Opt out of Microsoft Clarity everywhere using the opt-out control on Microsoft’s Clarity privacy page.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date on this page reflects the most recent change.
